If I told you I thought we need to stop singing during the worship service because it's unBiblical and merely just a tradition that has gotten watered down and pointless over the centuries, what would you say?
My first question would be, what makes it unBiblical? What are the verses FOR singing vs. verses that say you're not supposed to sing? If it's not in the Bible, that doesn't make it UNBiblical, as you've taught me :o) So I'd want to see verses that say straight out why it's against the Bible. Then we'd go from there. I mean, if it goes against the Bible then I'd say we should stop...but I'm thinking if we're doing it now, it's probably not unBiblical since we're pretty good about following the Bible :o)
1 Cor 14:15 "So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind."
Ephesians 5:19-20 "Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Colossians 3:16 "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God."
Psalm 100...
We sing to praise God for what He has done for us. And it's not some new tradition. Moses did it in Exodus (Exodus 15). And God said in Job 38:7, "...while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy," so it's not like he didn't create singing.
So yes, it's Biblical and thanks for giving me something to do before going to bed :o)
I am thinking that you and Debbie need to talk to each other in person instead of blogging to each other.
Not only are the Psalms filled with singing and joyful noises but also drums tamborines trumpets etc etc etc. I am not sure where you were trying to go with this question am I missing something?
